Udine, 12 dicembre-7 gennaio 2015 | Udine (Italy)

- I tre Spiriti mi parleranno dentro.

L’installazione è collocata in via Vittorio Veneto e in vicolo Lovaria.

The installation refers to the issue of the traditions and Christmas stories, and their critical interpretation. The chosen subject are two sentences from the novel “A Christmas Carol”, by Charles Dickens :

“He had no further intercourse with Spirits. End it was always said of him, that he knew how to keep Christmas well. May that be truly said of us, and all of us!”

“I will live in the Past, the Present, and the Future!” Scrooge repeated, as he scrambled out of bed. “The Spirits of all Three shall strive within me. Heaven, and the Christmas Time be praised for this!”

The novel is one of the examples of criticism of Dickens to the society and is also one of the most famous stories about Christmas in the world. The protagonist is a rich and stingy old financier of London of 1843, Ebenezer Scrooge who does not spend anything even for himself and for whom the Christmas and Sunday rest are a waste of time. It was during the night of Christmas Eve that he was visited by the spirit of Marley, his partner, who reveals that he still has time to change his fate. He announces the imminent visit of three spirits: one that embodies the Christmas past, present and another one the Christmas future, that will be able to change his petty and selfish character.

The text of Dickens is a fairy tale, and as such has a moral: the redemption of the protagonist, through the rediscovery of the value of sociality, of sharing and solidarity .

Dickens photographs clearly the failure and blindness of men to understand the values of life, making it a current text and to be discovered, not only at Christmas time!

The installation is located in Via Vittorio Veneto and in Vicolo Lovaria.

The letters that make up the two sentences are carved with lasercut system on plywood of poplar wood , and painted with metallic enamel and acrylic color phosphorescent .

To allow the reading of the texts also at dusk and at night the letters are coloured with phosphorescent paint.

The special feature of these coatings is that at the light is totally colorless, while with the darkness it is colored in shades of blue- green.
